Job Description

High School Thai Teacher

Thai is both a requirement of the Thai Ministry of Education and an important tool to have a quality life in Thailand. The Thai curricula at St Andrews are a combination of the Office of Private Education Commission (OPEC)’s “Thai language, Thai culture and Thai history subjects for international schools”, the IGCSE Thai First Language curriculum and the IBDP Thai curriculum. Thai is well established at St Andrews and we are looking for an experienced teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13.

Thai is taught as both a First and Modern Foreign Language to all students up to Year 9 and is also required for Thai nationality students in Years 10-13. The school offers both Thai as a First Language and as a Foreign Language, for those students whose needs are to be able to listen and speak Thai for daily life communication in their host country in Key Stage 3. In Key Stage 4, all Thai students will study either IGCSE Thai First Language or non-IGCSE Thai. In Key Stage 5, students will study either IB Thai or non-IB Thai.

Long Description

The ideal candidate will have the experience, and flexibility, to teach Thai across the High School age-range, including to IGCSE and IBDP students. Previous experience of teaching these courses would be an advantage.

At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.

All Thai classrooms have data projectors and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum.

As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.

St Andrews is committed to ensuring the safety of all our students, and expects all staff to share the same commitment (see our Child Protection Code of Conduct). No teacher will be appointed without at least two references, including one from the most recent employer, a ten year criminal record check and relevant regional Prohibition Order/DBS checks.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 15th May 2024, with applications being reviewed as they are received. Please email recruitment@standrews.ac.th if you require any further information.
