The School Librarian should be:
- a partner with staff in the education process and in supporting students’ needs
- an expert in information provision and resource management
- a collaborator in designing and implementing reading development
- a leader in creating a culture that supports reading for pleasure across the school
- a partner with all departments to resource each key stage effectively
Job Purpose: To manage, develop and evaluate a high-quality learning resource and information service that supports teaching and learning across the school.
Main Duties
- Organise and manage the Library to ensure effective use by classes, groups and individuals.
- Develop and implement Library policies aligned with school aims.
- Manage the Library budget responsibly.
- Select, acquire and promote resources to support teaching, learning and independent study.
- Provide advice and training to staff and students in resource use and library skills.
- Promote reading for pleasure across the school.
- Supervise and induct library staff.
- Support teachers in creating curriculum and classroom resources.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Library.
- Participate in staff meetings, appraisal and CPD programmes.
- Network with other librarians and professional groups to share practice and stay updated.

The whole school community works together to make the school a welcoming and stimulating environment, educating children to become lively and responsive thinkers. Staff are expected to participate in extracurricular activities once a week, support promotional activities, promote the House system, and act as ambassadors for the school. Experience in supporting students with ADHD, autism or dyslexia is highly valued.
