Job Purpose 

  • To provide prompt, sensitive and confidential counselling to students and staff.
  • To ensure that staff at the School are provided with advice and support, where appropriate, to support the emotional and pastoral needs of the students in their care.
  • To accept referrals from senior leaders and the child protection officers (CPO) and also operate a system whereby students can self-refer and be able to be seen privately as soon as possible after the request.

Required Skills/Abilities

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in the subject (Counselling, Youth Work, Social Work, Health & Wellbeing, Psychology)
  • Additional professional qualifications appropriate to the role
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and commitment to further professional development
  • Experience of working in an international school environment and boarding school experience
  • iGCSE/IB knowledge

Knowledge, Skills:

  • Knowledge of current Child Protection and Safeguarding good practice
  • Good communication skills
  • Problem solving and crisis management skills
  • Strong CPD record
  • Awareness of ownspecialist limitations and when to refer to outside agencies
  • An ability to establish and maintain helping relationships with students and colleagues
  • Clear knowledge and understanding of professional boundaries
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of current online and offline issues affecting young people and how to devise appropriate interventions
