Léman International School Chengdu (LIS) is looking to recruit a EAL Teacher, to drive excellent teaching and learning.

Nord Anglia Education is looking to recruit a EAL Teacher to join our  team. The role:

We seek a qualified EAL Teacher to join our school where your focus will be:

  • To drive excellent teaching and learning by providing specialised instruction to students for whom English is an additional language, supporting their language development and integration into the school community.
  • Creating a nurturing environment that fosters language acquisition and academic success while promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity.
  • Instructional Planning: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse language needs of EAL students, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Assessment: Assess students’ language proficiency levels and monitor their progress, adjusting instruction and support as needed to ensure effective learning.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with classroom and subject teachers to integrate language support into the curriculum, providing strategies to help EAL students access content across subjects.
  • Individualised Support: Create and maintain individualised learning plans (ILPs) for students, addressing their specific language needs and educational goals.
  • Cultural Awareness: Foster an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and encourages respect and understanding among all students.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child’s progress and involve them in their child’s education, providing resources as needed.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in EAL instruction and participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills.
  • Assessment: assess, track and monitor the progress of EAL learners to ensure they make progress and can access the curriculum as quickly as possible.

The Successful Candidate will possess:

  • Experience working with EAL students in a classroom setting.
  • Strong understanding of second language acquisition theories and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • a university degree
  • a recognised teaching qualification
  • a minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience
  • Strong Subject Knowledge: A solid understanding of the primary curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, and other core subjects.
  • Effective Communication Skills: The ability to communicate clearly and engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Classroom Management Skills: Techniques for maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment.
  • Adaptability: The ability to adjust teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Passion for Teaching: A genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to fostering a love of learning in students.
  • Empathy and Understanding: The capacity to understand and support students' social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the community.
  • Creativity: Innovative approaches to lesson planning and problem-solving in the classroom.
  • Assessment Skills: Proficiency in using various assessment methods to evaluate student progress and inform instruction.
  • Lifelong Learning Attitude: A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with educational best practices.
  • Technological Proficiency: Comfort with using educational technology to enhance learning experiences.

About you

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment as well as meet visa-related restrictions for China, including hold of Bachelor’s Degree or above and have a minimum of 2 years’ related work experience after graduating.
