Léman International School Chengdu (LIS) is looking to recruit a Music Teacher, to drive excellent teaching and Learning.

In the role of Music Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and teaching engaging lessons that develop students’ musical understanding, performance, and composition skills, in alignment with the IB framework and the school’s vision for excellence in the arts.
The role:
As Music Teacher your focus will be:
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan, teach, and assess engaging music lessons aligned with the IB MYP Arts framework, ensuring a balance of inquiry, action, and reflection.
- Conceptual Understanding: Develop students’ understanding of music concepts such as form, structure, rhythm, melody, harmony, and expression through a range of genres and contexts.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Design units of inquiry that encourage students to explore “creating, performing, and responding” to music in culturally diverse and interdisciplinary ways.
- Assessment and Feedback: Use IB assessment criteria (A–D) to assess students’ knowledge and skills in a fair and consistent manner, providing clear formative and summative feedback.
- Performance Opportunities: Organise and direct performances, concerts, or showcases that enable students to apply and demonstrate their learning in authentic contexts.
- Creativity and Composition: Guide students in developing original compositions and improvisations using traditional instruments, voice, and digital music technologies.
- Integration of Technology: Incorporate digital tools such as GarageBand, Soundtrap, or Sibelius to enhance creativity, composition, and reflection.
- Collaboration and Ensemble Work: Foster teamwork and ensemble skills, encouraging students to collaborate respectfully and effectively in group music-making.
- Cultural Awareness: Promote appreciation of global musical traditions, connecting learning to local, national, and international contexts in line with IB’s international-mindedness.
- Professional Contribution: Engage in departmental planning, interdisciplinary units, and professional development, contributing to the school’s overall mission and IB philosophy.
- Reflective Practice: Encourage both teachers and students to engage in reflective practice. Regular reflection helps identify strengths, areas for improvement, and strategies for enhancing teaching and learning.
The Successful Candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher
- A minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience
- Teaching qualification
- Strong Subject Knowledge: A solid understanding of the MYP framework
- Effective Communication Skills: The ability to communicate clearly and engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Classroom Management Skills: Techniques for maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment.
- Adaptability: The ability to adjust teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Passion for Teaching: A genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to fostering a love of learning in students.
- Empathy and Understanding: The capacity to understand and support students' social, emotional, and academic needs.
- Collaborative Spirit: Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the community.
- Creativity: Innovative approaches to lesson planning and problem-solving in the classroom.
- Assessment Skills: Proficiency in using various assessment methods to evaluate student progress and inform instruction.
- Lifelong Learning Attitude: A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with educational best practices.
