Finance Manager
Location: Dalian American International School/Dalian Huamei School
We’re looking to recruit a Finance Manager to join our Dalian American International School, a Nord Anglia Education school.
THE SCHOOL
DAIS is an American international school in the Golden Pebble Beach National Resort, in Jinzhou New District, Dalian, China, about 60 kilometres east of the centre of Dalian.
Founded in 2006, DAIS has provided every student with an opportunity to achieve personal excellence and to contribute to the global community. It serves students of approximately 30 nationalities in Pre-K through 12th grade.
The language of instruction is English for all classes with the exception of proficiency levelled Mandarin classes.
THE ROLE
To ensure the school has an effective finance function, which meets all internal and external accounting, tax and statutory reporting requirements, and provides strong financial support and guidance to the school operation.
KEY RESULT AREA:
Finance Operations
• Ensure a fully staffed Finance Team is in place that carries out all necessary finance functions, including purchasing
• Develop highly effective finance systems and internal control mechanisms
• Ensure finance procedures and processes are carried out efficiently
• Work as a business partner to the Head of school and other school Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members
Internal Reporting
• Produce monthly management accounts and quarterly statutory packs as per prescribed timetable and of excellent quality.
• Produce reports on student numbers, cash flow, capital expenditure, staffing and other KPIs as requested.
• Provide variance analysis vs. budget and vs. prior year
• Monitor budget execution (including vs expected YTD spends)
• Provide financial information to the Head of school and other budget holders to aid management of the school’s budget.
External Reporting
• Ensure accounting records maintained that meet statutory requirements and ensure school passes its annual audits.
• Ensure school entity meets all its tax recording and reporting requirements and pays all taxes on time as and when necessary.
• Produce all financial reports as required for external auditing, tax and other external bodies.
• Develop strong relationships with external audit, tax and banking organizations
Other Finance
• Lead school annual budgeting process and with Head of School present to regional management
• Ensure efficient school fee collection and follow up effectively with any outstanding debtors.
• Assist in school expansion projects (CAPEX, ROI…)
Staff Management
• Recruit finance staff that are high caliber and dedicated
• Develop a strong team ethos
• Ensure excellent on the job training and development of staff
Other
• To be an active and enthusiastic member of the Senior Leadership Team
• Gain a good understanding of the whole school operation.
• Any other appropriate duties as allocated by members of the school’s leadership team.

Qualifications/Training
• Degree
• Accountancy Qualification
Experience / Knowledge
• Proven track record with at least five years in finance function
• Experience of supervision, management and development of staff
• Experience of producing management accounts
• Experience of liaison with external audit and taxation bodies
• Experience of setting up a Finance function
• Experience of implementing new finance systems
Skills
• Fluent in English and Mandarin, both oral and written
• Ability to prioritise and deliver against agreed service levels and targets
• High level of interpersonal skills with all levels of organisation
• High level of technical accountancy and tax knowledge
• Up to date with changes in accountancy and tax legislation
• Good data analysis and presentation skills
• High level of commercial awareness
