MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The successful applicant’s role will be to support and encourage students, helping them to enjoy and make the most of the learning opportunities offered by the school. Teaching assignments may include IB Economics, IB Business Management, IGCSE Economics and AP Micro/Macroeconomics.

He/She may be allocated a homeroom advisory role, thereby assisting the pastoral team by leading an advisory class and being the first point of contact for the families of his/her advisees. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY

The Teacher will:

  • Promote the school’s mission and vision by assisting students to discover and develop individual strengths, make powerful, lifelong global connections, and be their best selves
  • Contribute to the creation of a caring and inclusive learning environment in which students can flourish, ensuring that each student’s health and well-being are given the necessary priority
  • Embody and promote Collège du Léman’s RISE values of Respect, Internationalism, Spirit, and Excellence
  • Use and develop existing resources to plan engaging, challenging, and rigorous economics lessons
  • Develop curricula and unit plans, taking into consideration the RISE values, the development of a broad range of 21st-century skills (including ICT skills) and specific course-related considerations such as the IB Learner Profile
  • Give regular formative and summative feedback to students and ensure active engagement with feedback
  • Use assessment data to differentiate appropriately, inform lesson planning and ensure that all students are making excellent progress

  • Work in close collaboration with members of the humanities department, sharing best practice, planning in teams, offering feedback, and developing interdisciplinary learning opportunities
  • Engage with the teaching community of external examination courses to keep up to date with course changes, understand assessment guidelines and exchange ideas for best teaching practice  
  • Use the school’s Teacher Appraisal - Professional Development (TAPD), framework to set and meet clear, challenging, and relevant objectives, and participate in ongoing professional development (internal and, if appropriate, external)
  • Manage and regularly update the school’s digital platforms to keep timely record of attendance, student grades, lesson plans, resources etc.
  • Supervise Extended Essays in Business Management, Economics or other related domains within the IB programme

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Qualification

Required

  • University degree in Economics, Business or related discipline
  • Recognized teaching qualification
  • Master’s degree in economics, Business, Education, or other related discipline is preferred

Experience

Required

  • Previous experience of teaching Economics and Business Management

Preferred

  • Previous experience in an international school setting
  • Previous experience teaching IB Economics, IB Business Management, iGCSE Economics or AP Micro/Macroeconomics
  • Experience in supervising IBDP Extended Essays
  • Experience as an IB examiner, IGCSE examiner and/or AP reader

Prior Skills and Knowledge

  • ICT literacy, both with educational tools and mainstream software
  • English mother tongue or equivalent fluency. Working knowledge of French is an asset
