MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

Graduate Assistants are integral members of our boarding community. They bring energy, enthusiasm, and a flexible mindset to support students' well-being and personal growth. Working alongside House Parents, Graduate Assistants provide day-to-day pastoral support, participate in activities, and ensure a safe, engaging environment for students.

 

This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in education, youth work, or pastoral care. Graduate Assistants serve as role models, motivators, and reliable points of support for our boarders, helping them develop essential life skills, independence, and resilience.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

Pastoral Care: Act as a trusted point of contact for students, offering emotional support and practical guidance. Collaborate with House Parents and the Health Centre to ensure students’ emotional, social, and physical well-being.

Community Leadership: Foster a positive and inclusive house environment, promoting teamwork, respect, and responsibility. Encourage student engagement in house activities, celebrations, and competitions.

Activity Involvement: Participate actively in a range of student activities and excursions, setting a positive example. Support evening, weekend, and holiday activity schedules, promoting student participation.

Operational Support: Assist with the daily operations of the house, including meal supervision, laundry oversight, and student wake-up and bedtime routines. Support House Parents in ensuring the house environment is clean, organized, and safe.

Administrative Duties: Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping for attendance, student check-ins, and other administrative tasks. Contribute to student progress reports, sharing observations with House Parents and the senior boarding team.

Safety and Security: Monitor student whereabouts and ensure they adhere to curfews and daily schedules. Follow protocols for handling missing students, fire drills, and medical emergencies.

Role Modeling:  Demonstrate empathy, patience, and integrity, embodying the core values of the boarding community. Support students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds as they integrate into boarding life.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

  • Previous experience working with children or young people (voluntary or paid) is highly desirable.
  • A positive, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete administrative tasks effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Enthusiasm for boarding life, with a willingness to participate in activities and excursions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • A driving license is preferred. Driving duties are an integral part of the job.
  • Resilience and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.

You are an energetic, enthusiastic, team player, but also resistant to pressure and well organised. You have a good sense of humour and believe in positive and respectful relationships. You have excellent interpersonal skills, especially with students. Your level of English is excellent. experience in working with children and young people is a prerequisite. You will be exhausted at the end of the day, but the rewards will be extraordinary!

TERMS AND CONDITION

As a Graduate Assistant, you will work a rotational schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts- you will have a day off every week and work one weekend in two.

Accommodation and meals are provided when on duty.

You must be eligible to work in Switzerland (EU citizens or Swiss work permit holders).
