At Nord Anglia Education, our teachers inspire students to achieve more than they ever imagined possible. The teacher is expected to support curriculum implementation, student engagement, and innovation within a dynamic, inclusive international environment.

If you have a global mindset, enjoy thinking outside the box and are prepared to go above and beyond to find solutions, then a career at Nord Anglia is for you.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Head of Primary to provide leadership, inspiration, and guidance to an outstanding team of Primary Teachers, Early Years Teachers, and Teaching Assistants. The British School of Guangzhou enjoys an enviable reputation as a school where children achieve excellent academic results while thoroughly enjoying their learning experience. The successful candidate will be a leader capable of building on this success and helping us achieve our goal of becoming the top international school in China.

Reporting directly to the Principal, you will be responsible for overseeing the Primary and Early Years phases, ranging from Little Learners and Toddlers up to Year 6. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead our team of dedicated professionals. You will demonstrate strong drive and commitment to maintaining our school’s outstanding standards.

Additionally, you will serve as a key member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, working closely with other senior leaders—including the Principal, Head of Secondary, and Director of Admissions and Marketing—to help shape and guide the school’s overall strategic direction.

The Successful Candidate will possess:

  • National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure for all countries lived in.
  • Compliance with visa requirements for working.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students, and a willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training when required.

The Person

We are looking for an excellent communicator who builds positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents, and who embraces technology and change. The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree or above, with at least three years of leadership experience in UK schools or a reputable British-curriculum international school. You should be deeply committed to fostering a love of learning in students and recognize the vital role that enjoyment plays in education. Strong organizational skills, a good sense of humor, and an understanding of the expectations held by high-achieving international parents are essential. While we seek a candidate with high expectations, flexibility and adaptability are equally important, along with an appreciation that circumstances in China may not always go as planned. This role requires the ability to navigate challenges with cultural sensitivity. If you are not comfortable managing frustrations in a culturally appropriate manner, this may not be the right position for you.

In fulfilling the requirements of the post, you will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular will:

  • Actively promote a love of learning as stated in our mission;
  • Meet the expectations of parents for an academically strong curriculum;
  • Inspire trust and confidence in students, parents and colleagues;

  • Clearly understand the needs of students who are learning English as a second or third language;
  • Have the ability to build team commitment with colleagues;
  • Be able to engage and motivate students;
  • Be an innovative and creative thinker;
  • Have experience of using assessment to improve the quality of students' learning;
  • Lead the strategic development of the Primary School including EY;
  • Act as a role model in promoting our core values;
