Maintenance Technician

About this Role

The British International School of Houston is seeking to hire a reliable and hardworking Maintenance Assistant / Facilities Technician to support the day-to-day maintenance of our site. The role involves general facilities work, basic repairs, moving furniture and equipment, setting up rooms, painting, basic plumbing tasks, and helping keep the building safe, clean, and well maintained.This is a hands-on role and would suit someone with good practical skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to help wherever needed.

About this Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general maintenance and repair tasks around the building
  • Complete basic plumbing repairs such as leaks, toilets, sinks, and fixtures
  • Carry out painting, decorating, patching, and touch-up work
  • Move furniture, equipment, deliveries, and other items as required
  • Assist with room setups, event setups, and site moves
  • Complete basic handyman tasks and general facilities duties
  • Report larger repair issues to the Facilities Manager or supervisor
  • Support contractors and vendors when needed
  • Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized
  • Follow all health and safety procedures

Skills and Experience Required

  • Basic plumbing knowledge
  • Painting and decorating experience
  • General maintenance or handyman experience
  • Ability to use basic tools safely
  • Good practical problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to help with physical tasks and furniture moves

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and move furniture and equipment
  • Must be comfortable standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying during the day
  • May involve indoor and outdoor work
  • Must be able to work safely in a busy environment
