THE ROLE

 

Inspirational and Strategic Curriculum Leadership

· Ensure that the levels of students’ attainment and the quality of teaching successfully align with the secondary school’s promise to parents and school development goals

· Lead regular Curriculum Leader meetings

· Assist Curriculum Leaders in supporting and monitoring curriculum areas through lesson observations, learning walks, etc. (with contributions to the training and professional development of staff as appropriate)

· Oversee the curriculum structure and timetable, including working with Curriculum Leaders in the allocation of teaching responsibilities and teaching loads,

· Work with the DP Coordinator to create efficient DP timetabling and option blocks

· In conjunction wiht the head of secondary, identify possible weakness in the curriculum

· Contribute to the annual Timetable planning and implementation

· Lead and improve learning and teaching, through rigorous processes of monitoring and evaluation, as well as providing a significant input into PD to develop our learning and teaching

· Lead and support the head of secondary for all internal and external reviews including NAE, IB and WASC

· Work with the DP/MYP Coordinators to prepare IB and WASC evaluations

· Promote NISC’s mission of “caring hearts, ambitious minds”

 

Recording, Reporting, Assessment and Data

 

· Coordinate and review assessment, recording and reporting cycles

· Work collaboratively with the head of secondary to ensure that parents receive regular reports of their children’s progress and attainment that include next steps for learning

· Use academic data (including baseline data) to drive changes in the learning environment in support of improved student outcomes

· Oversee the effective use of Managebac with the MYP/DP Coordinators

· Oversee ISAMS, in particular “teaching manager” module with the secondary admin team, to ensure students and staff are allocated correctly for timetabling purposes

· Lead the review of teaching and learning/academic secondary school policies and publications

 

Self-Evaluation and Improvement Planning

 

· Collaboratively review school’s academic policies, procedures and routines to ensure they are effective, efficient

· Support the head of secondary’s aim towards achieving excellence in IBDP results

· Support the head of secondary in ensuring that the secondary school’s academic program is fit for purpose and challenges students of all abilities

· Encourage all secondary staff in systematic, rigorous self-evaluation with the explicit purpose of improving the quality of students’ experiences and their standards of attainment

· Take positive steps to gather the views of secondary school parents, students and others about the quality of service provided by the school

· Evaluate students’ classroom experiences, track students’ attainment and evaluate progress towards meeting agreed targets

· Work collaboratively with the secondary senior leadership team to ensure that all recommendations from previous inspections and evaluations are included in the schools’ improvement plans

· Work collaboratively with the head of secondary to ensure proper identification and access to appropriate professional development activities for all members of staff

 

Managing Staff and Performance

 

· Assist with annual staff recruitment cycle

· Support the head of secondary in ensuring that all secondary school staff are well qualified and experienced, trained to do their roles and are deployed effectively to support the school

· Support and lead aspects of the induction of new staff and annual orientation of all staff

· Help monitor the performance of all teaching and support staff in the secondary school

· Help support teachers as part of the APT process to set aspirational yet realistic goals aimed at improving students’ performance

· Ensure that teaching and learning is monitored closely and consistently to ensure the quality of teaching practice across the school and identify areas of development

· Delegate effectively as appropriate, trusting and empowering others to perform

· Provide regular feedback and motivation to others to successfully achieve their targets

· Encourage others to contribute, creating a spirit of teamwork and opportunities of cooperation and collaboration between departments

· Contribute time and expertise to the professional development of NISC teachers and leaders

 

Parent, Student and Community Relationships

 

· Engage and consult secondary school parents as active partners in their children’s learning in a variety of ways

· Encourage positive and regular participation of secondary school parents at school events

· Build and maintain relationships with Secondary School parents and the community by supporting regular and appropriate communications with all members of the school community, both internally and externally

· Undertake any reasonable professional duties delegated to him/her by the Head of Secondary

 

About you

 

· Experience in IB and acadmics, in a leadership or management capacity

· Strong administrative, organizational, IT and analytical skills

· Passion for teaching, and commitment to educating the whole child

· A high level of professionalism and consideration for the well-being of children

· An ability to speak with conviction and authority on all matters relating to pastoral care and safeguarding, to build confidence amongst stakeholders, and to maintain a culture with student welfare and safeguarding at its heart

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with an even-handed, sensitive approach, an understanding and empathy with the feelings and motives of others, ability to see things from others’ perspectives

· Sound judgement, with the ability to make reasoned, reasonable and balanced decisions

· The willingness to confront difficult issues and have difficult conversations

· Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance and conduct, and maintain positive and courteous relationships with staff, students and parents

· A positive and solution-focused attitude to the role and wider school life

 

OUR NISC ACADEMIC RESULTS

 

For the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, our students consistently achieve above a 35 point average and a 100% pass rate, with up to 25% of students earning a score above 40. We consistently achieve 80% bilingual diplomas. For the International Baccalaureate

Middle Years Programme personal project our students achieved a 5.7-point average, 1.65 points above the world average.
