Pastoral Leadership

· Create and foster school spirit, nurturing a positive and healthy learning environment, conducive to learning and mutual respect

· Oversee the development of grade level leaders and advisors to provide high quality pastoral care

· Collaborate with the Educational Leadership Team to formulate strategic direction and create a pastoral vision for the whole school

· Collaborate with the Head of Secondary to provide effective pastoral induction for all new secondary staff, and lead staff meetings throughout the year as required

· Liaise effectively with the SENCO, counsellor and other key staff to support students with needs

· In conjunction with the School Leadership Team, and other colleagues, assist with the management of the school’s collection of pastoral data

· Oversee pastoral assemblies as and when required

· Support the head of secondary with the organisation of Action Learning Camps (ALCs)

· With SELT, ensure the annual assignment of advisors, allocating staff as appropriate

· Oversee the primary transition programme between grade 5 and grade 6, and all end of year transitions, to include student activities and migration of data

· Liaise with admissions team to ensure students’ smooth arrival to and departure from NISC

 

Communication

· Oversee the communication and content of daily student bulletin via ISAMS

· Monitor the grade level leaders and advisors in the distribution and collation of information to students

· Ensure pastoral information is maintained and updated on ISAMS and the TEAMS Grade Level Leaders channel

· Ensure high quality staff communications with parents, based on understanding and respect

· Oversee the development, production and usage of student planners

· Organise and lead parent workshops/presentations to promote home-school partnership

· Collaborate with the secondary senior leadership team to review all handbooks and publications for secondary section

 

Student Standards, Wellbeing and Support

· Promote the physical health and well-being of the students in their care

· Identify and support students whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances

· Coordinate regular students of concern meetings with relevant staff, making sure of proper records and communication arising from the meeting

· Oversee systems and procedures for tracking student’s social, emotional and behavioural progress

· Ensure appropriate systems for monitoring pastoral matters, and sharing information as required across staff (with due regard to confidentiality)

· Analyse pastoral data including lates, attendance, wellbeing measures, to look for trends and emerging issues and to ensure that all students are cared for

· Work with the ILS lead on the implementation of strategies to promote positive mental health, resilience and diversity

· Support advisors to maintain standards and excellence in daily high-quality advisory time

· Oversee the recording of daily procedures such as attendance and late marks

· Monitor behaviour during break, lunch and end of day routines

· Collaborate on the development, maintenance and implementation of student behavioural policies and procedures

· Support with the reporting of pastoral information to parents, as part of the report cycle

 

Behaviour Management

· Ensure that behaviour guidelines are adhered to both by staff and students, to include rewards and sanctions, in line with school values

· Ensure these guidelines are accessibly stored, regularly reviewed and made clear to students, staff and parents

· Ensure the accurate recording and communication of behavioural incidents and their consequences, whilst respecting an appropriate degree of confidentiality

· Ensure that students take pride in their appearance and take the lead in ensuring the dress code is upheld

· Ensure that students’ efforts and achievements are celebrated in the community

 

Pastoral Programmes

Through the Grade Level Leaders and counsellors, the Secondary Assistant Head Pastoral will:

· Ensure the development and maintenance of the Grade 6 to 12 advisory programme to best suit student needs

· Ensure that the advisory programme is clearly documented, stored and delivered

· Support the development of the ILS (international life skills) programme

 

Safeguarding Responsibilities

· Act as one of the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), promoting a school-wide culture of safeguarding

· Use Wellbeing Manager on ISAMS to monitor students of concern along with the school counsellor and other key pastoral staff

· Attend student case conference (safeguarding) meetings as required

· Contribute to the development of the school’s safeguarding policy and practices

 

Performance Management

· Inspire and guide all staff to the highest levels of performance

· Along with SELT, lead in the performance management process for teachers and align personal growth plans with school development

· Provide support and regular/constructive feedback to all secondary teachers, especially with regards to high quality pastoral care

Undertake other tasks relevant to this role as directed by the Head of Secondary

 

About you

 

· Experience in pastoral care and/or safeguarding, in a leadership or management capacity

· Strong administrative, organizational, IT and analytical skills

· Passion for teaching, and commitment to educating the whole child

· A high level of professionalism and consideration for the well-being of children

· An ability to speak with conviction and authority on all matters relating to pastoral care and safeguarding, to build confidence amongst stakeholders, and to maintain a culture with student welfare and safeguarding at its heart

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with an even-handed, sensitive approach, an understanding and empathy with the feelings and motives of others, ability to see things from others’ perspectives

· Sound judgement, with the ability to make reasoned, reasonable and balanced decisions

· The willingness to confront difficult issues and have difficult conversations

· Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance and conduct, and maintain positive and courteous relationships with staff, students and parents

· A positive and solution-focused attitude to the role and wider school life

 

OUR NISC ACADEMIC RESULTS

 

For the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, our students consistently achieve above a 35 point average and a 100% pass rate, with up to 25% of students earning a score

above 40. We consistently achieve 80% bilingual diplomas. For the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme personal project our students achieved a 5.7-point average, 1.65 points above the world average.
