Learning Support Language Teacher

Support the inclusion and learning of assigned students with special educational needs (SEN) across all areas of school life.

Provide targeted English language support (e.g., Accelerated Language Support – ALS) for students who require additional assistance.

Develop a working knowledge of a range of learning needs relevant to the school context.

Gain a deep understanding of the individual needs, strengths, and challenges of assigned students.

Support students both in group settings and individually, inside and outside the classroom, to maximize their learning.

Clarify and explain lesson instructions to ensure student understanding and engagement.

Ensure students can access and effectively use necessary learning tools and equipment.

Motivate and encourage students to participate actively in their learning.

Provide support in areas of specific difficulty, such as speech, language, writing, and numeracy.

Help students maintain focus and complete tasks, offering guidance and redirection when necessary.

Adapt or create learning materials to ensure accessibility and differentiation.

Assist in managing students’ social interactions and behavior in a positive, constructive manner.

Build and maintain supportive, respectful relationships with students to enhance self-esteem and confidence.

Advocate for the inclusion and participation of all students within the classroom and broader school community.

Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the student at all times.

Provide clear, regular feedback to teachers, learning support leaders, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and challenges.

Contribute to meetings, including IEP reviews and annual reviews, as appropriate.

Participate in ongoing professional learning and development relevant to the role.

Attend staff meetings and school events when required.

Follow all school policies, procedures, and safeguarding protocols.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.

Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
