From August 2026, we are seeking a highly skilled, energetic, and experienced leader to coordinate the STARs Specialist High Support Needs Provision.

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

 

To lead, coordinate, and further develop the STARs Specialist High Support Needs Provision. The postholder will ensure that students with multiple and complex needs (including Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and physical or sensory disabilities) receive integrated, specialist support from academic and transdisciplinary teams, enabling them to thrive within our open-admissions inclusive environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Team Management

 

  • Lead a large transdisciplinary team of specialist teachers, therapists, and LSAs with strategic clarity and emotional integrity.

  • Manage the teaching and learning cycle, including curriculum planning, assessment, and programme evaluation.

  • Oversee recruitment, staff appraisal (SuccessFactors), mentoring, and coaching.

  • Facilitate weekly briefings and team meetings to manage timetabling, troubleshooting, and daily operations.

 

2. Student Progress & Individualised Provision

 

  • Act as case lead and teacher for a small group of individualised STARs students.

  • Design, implement, and monitor Individual Learning and Health Plans (ILHPs), ensuring quality assurance across the provision.

  • Model adaptive teaching approaches and ensure student progress aligns with developmental stage and individual need.

  • Work closely with mainstream teachers, Year Leaders, and Subject Leaders to maximise inclusion and participation in wider school life, including events, performances, and residentials.

 

3. Stakeholder Communication & Advocacy

 

  • Serve as the primary liaison between families, specialists, and academic staff, ensuring clarity and transparency around progress and interventions.

  • Lead formal termly reviews and provide written reports in line with school policy.

  • Navigate complex and sensitive conversations with families and colleagues with empathy and professional integrity.

 

4. Professional Development & Excellence

 

  • Act as a consultant across the wider school, leading INSET sessions and parent workshops to promote inclusive practice and the STARs provision.

  • Sustain and develop the school’s International Centre of Excellence status by remaining at the forefront of SEND best practice.

  • Represent the school as an ambassador within local and international educational communities.

 

5. Operational & Quality Management

 

  • Manage the STARs provision budget and resource allocation.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Learning Support, contribute to the development and review of Admissions and Learning Support policies.

  • Ensure robust record-keeping, online documentation standards, and risk assessments for trips and off-site activities.

 

Who We Are Looking For

 

  • A highly skilled and energetic leader with substantial experience in high-support needs provision.

  • Proven ability to coordinate complex transdisciplinary teams, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, teachers, counselling and pastoral teams, and LSAs.

  • High levels of emotional intelligence and the capacity to mentor and develop staff within a growth-oriented appraisal framework.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

 

  • Bachelor’s degree and PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

 

Highly Desirable

 

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.

  • iSENCO, NPQSENCO, NASENCO, or equivalent professional qualifications.

  • Experience leading a high-support needs provision or large SEND department.

  • Experience within an international school context.

  • Familiarity with transdisciplinary service models integrating speech, occupational, and physiotherapy.

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Up-to-date SEND expertise, with deep understanding of complex needs including ASD, ADHD, Down syndrome, and physical or sensory disabilities.

  • Strategic oversight of budgets, resource allocation, and complex timetabling for large teams.

  • Pedagogical excellence in adaptive teaching and the ability to coach others in inclusive classroom practice.
