HEAD OF SECONDARY HUMANITIES

NACIS Shanghai is looking to recruit a Head of Secondary Humanities, to drive excellent teaching and learning in the subject of Secondary Economics, Business Studies, Geography or Global Perspectives

The School:

Founded in September 2016, NACIS Shanghai offers students a creative, challenging and rewarding learning experience. Students aged 6 to 18 years old are welcomed into our progressive and internationally minded school community. We offer a distinctive bilingual, blended learning programme leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Located in the Minhang District of Shanghai, the school has world class facilities that complement our innovative approach.

 

Our staff are from 10 different countries with significant numbers of colleagues from China, the UK, Ireland and North America.

 

The role:

We seek a qualified Head of Secondary Humanities to join where your focus will be:

  • To offer leadership, inspiration and guidance to the secondary Humanities department with over 20 Humanities Teachers and 1 TA.
  • The post holder must work effectively as a key member of the Secondary Leadership Team in ensuring students’ academic progress.
  • To contribute significantly to school improvement/development and planning, and to promote the learning priorities of the school development plan whilst promoting the wider aspirations and values of the school. Including the development of a high-performance culture for students and staff. 
  • To teach one Humanities subjects across secondary school between Grade 6 and 12, including IGCSE, A-level and IBDP curriculum, preferably in IB Economics, IB Business Studies, IB ESS or IB Geography.
  • To demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge and be flexible within the Humanities department to teach different aspects of the curriculum.
  • To ensure that planning, preparation, teaching, recording, assessment and reports meet the needs of the students and expectations of the school.
  • To promote high expectations for our students, designing learning activities that are aligned to our school’s Secondary curriculum and creating a learning culture where there are no limits to what can be achieved.
  • To foster an environment of respect within the classroom, facilitating learning through questioning and discussion.

 

The Successful Candidate will Possess:

  • Qualified Teacher status with a minimum of five years teaching experience in a Secondary Humanities subject.
  • At least 2 to 3 years leadership experiences managing a department.
  • Experience of IBDP or A-level teaching is a MUST.
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children through classroom organization, differentiation and learning strategies.
  • Holding a PGCE/ QTS or national recognized teaching license.
  • Team player and be flexible.

 

About You:

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment as well as meet visa-related restrictions for China, including a bachelor degree, non-criminal background check and at least 24 months of teaching experiences.
