Teacher of Science (Biology) with Potential for Head of Department
The Role:
To deliver exceptional teaching and learning across KS3, IGCSE, and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Science, with a specialism in Biology. You will be a core member of our collaborative Science department, contributing to a vibrant and rigorous science culture. For an exceptional candidate with the relevant experience and vision, this position offers the potential to step into the role of Head of Science
Key Responsibilities:
Delivering Excellence in Science & Biology Education:
- To plan and deliver high-quality, engaging, and differentiated lessons in Science (KS3 and IGCSE) and Biology(IBDP)catering to a wide range of abilities and interests.
- To effectively utilise formative and summative assessment data to track student progress, measure impact, and inform personalised teaching strategies to ensure outstanding student outcomes.
- To lead and manage the Science department, including staff, resources, and curriculum development, if appointed as Head of Science.
Fostering Scientific Inquiry and Conceptual Understanding
- To create a dynamic and inspiring learning environment that encourages critical thinking, scientific enquiry, and the development of practical skills through hands-on laboratory investigations.
- To nurture each student's understanding of complex biological concepts and scientific methodology, guiding them to achieve high standards in IGCSE and IBDP examinations.
Collaboration and Whole-School Contribution
- To be an active and collaborative member of the Science department, working closely with colleagues in Chemistry and Physics to ensure a cohesive and outstanding science education.
- To contribute to the school's vibrant STEM life by leading co-curricular clubs (e.g., STEM Club, Biology Olympiad) and participating in science fairs and events.
Community, Wellbeing, and Global Engagement
- To support the school’s wellbeing ethos by fostering an inclusive, safe, and supportive classroom where every student feels valued and confident to explore.
- To act as a positive ambassador for the Sciences within the school community and beyond.
- To engage with opportunities within the Nord Anglia Education family, including potential collaborations with MIT, to enrich the science curriculum and provide global perspectives for our students.
Person Specification
Essential
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, BEd, or equivalent).
- A strong academic background in Biology or a related life science discipline.
- Proven experience of teaching Science/Biology effectively, ideally across multiple key stages, including IGCSE and/or IBDP.
- A passion for fostering scientific literacy and a demonstrable commitment to supporting the holistic development of every child.
The Successful Candidate will possess
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, HDipEd, or equivalent).
- Hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure (or equivalent) for all countries lived in.
- Compliance with visa requirements for working in China.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, and a willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training when required.
- A proven track record of success with at least two years’ Science/Biology teaching experience.
- Experience of teaching IGCSE and IBDP Biology is highly preferable.
- For the Head of Science potential, proven experience in middle leadership and managing a team is highly desirable.

You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment as well as meet visa-related restrictions for China, including holding a bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum of two years teaching experience as a teacher post qualifying, as well as non-criminal records valid for the last 10 years.
