Secondary Learning Support Teacher

The British International School of Houston seeks to appoint a well-qualified and experienced Learning Support Teacher, to join the Student Support Services Team. Particular experience with Middle and High School aged students is sought. This role involves supporting students who require short term learning interventions or those with identified learning differences, to access the curriculum with classroom and test accomodations and strategies. Essential to this role are excellent communication skills, flexibility and the desire to collaborate with colleagues across the Middle and High School phase to deliver world class support.

Roles and Responsibilities

Wellbeing

  • A commitment to student wellbeing;
  • Working to ensure that student safety, child protection and student wellbeing are the number one priority;
  • Have a vigilance for, and commitment to the wellbeing of those that we work alongside with;
  • Work with key school leaders and HR colleagues to ensure that HR policies and the NAE Code of Conduct are adhered to;
  • Ensure that the BIS Houston is an environment where all staff feel respected, included, valued and that they belong.

 

Engagement and Interaction

  • Sets high expectations for students; inspiring, motivating and challenging students to achieve excellent progress and ambitious outcomes.

Teaching and Learning

  • Has experience and the skills to deliver high quality teaching at Middle and High School level
  • Has experience of working with students with identified learning differences, IEPs and accomodations
  • Experience with executive functioning skills development and an understanding of SpLDs (such as dyslexia, dyscalculia etc.) are desirable
  • Participates in all aspects of our learning programme, in line with school policy that assist in growing the school and are linked to the agreed learning programme

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Teaching Qualification
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in SEN/Learning Support
  • IGCSE and IB Curriculum experience is desirable
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
