ART High Level Teaching Assistant
Job Purpose:
To support teachers in delivering high-quality, engaging, and practical art education while helping students thrive creatively and academically. The ART High Level Teaching Assistant will assist in both classroom and extracurricular settings and contribute to the smooth running of the Art Department.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide targeted support for students across all key stages, especially those preparing for GCSE and IB Visual Arts, under the direction of the Head of Department.

Assist in delivering foundational drawing and technical skills in small group settings.
-
Help raise student achievement by supporting progress and engagement.
-
Plan and lead small group interventions in technical art skills, as identified by teachers and the Head of Department.

Foster student well-being and actively contribute to safeguarding their welfare.
-
Promote a respectful, inclusive, and diverse school environment.
-
Collaborate with teachers and the Director of Whole School Learning Support to improve student outcomes.
-
Support teachers in delivering practical, safe, and well-resourced lessons.
-
Encourage students to explore a variety of media, tools, and techniques to achieve high standards in their work.
Specific Duties:
-
Assist in delivering creative, small-group lessons focused on developing core art techniques.
-
Support individual and group learning programmes aligned with student targets.
-
Monitor and record student progress in collaboration with the Director of WS Learning Support and teaching staff.

Design engaging activities to build student confidence and independent learning.
-
Help oversee the implementation of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
-
Establish positive relationships with students, providing role model behaviour and support for individual needs.
Technician Responsibilities:
Daily Tasks:
-
Prepare materials and equipment for lessons in advance.
-
Assist teachers during practical classes.
-
Keep studios clean, organised, and ready for use.
Regular Tasks (Fortnightly to Monthly):
-
Maintain and service studio equipment.
-
Audit and manage art materials and stock.
-
Coordinate stock orders with the Head of Department.
Special Events:

Provide creative support for school productions (set design, props, etc.).

Prepare, install, and document student work for major exhibitions:

EXPO (Faculty Exhibition)

Additional Support:
-
Assist in the delivery of clay, printmaking, and textile lessons.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
-
Strong drawing and painting skills.
-
Confident working across multiple media including print and ceramics.
-
Familiarity with IB Visual Arts, GCSE, or iGCSE Art, Graphics, and Photography curricula.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
-
Experience working in an educational or childcare setting, particularly with small-group interventions.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

BA (Hons) or equivalent in Education or Fine Arts.

Training in counselling or safeguarding.

Experience working with students with a variety of learning needs.

Evidence of recent CPD in Learning Support or Arts Education.
