ABOUT THE ROLE
At St Andrews, Hebrew is taught as a First Language (native) programme, and we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Hebrew specialist teacher to join our Languages team. The successful candidate will have experience teaching Hebrew as a native language to Primary and High School students and will play an important role in the development and introduction of a new Hebrew First Language programme at St Andrews.
The successful candidate will teach Hebrew First Language to native-speaking students from Year 1 to Year 9. Class sizes are small and students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively and engaging approach to learning through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey a genuine enthusiasm for the subject and work collaboratively with colleagues to establish and develop a strong, engaging and progressive Hebrew curriculum across Year 1 to Year 9.
As this is a new programme, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to its development from the outset. This will include supporting the planning and implementation of the Hebrew First Language curriculum, developing appropriate schemes of work and resources, establishing progression across year groups, and helping to ensure that the programme meets the needs of native Hebrew-speaking students at different stages of their learning.
The ideal candidate will have extensive subject knowledge and experience teaching Hebrew using appropriate first-language teaching approaches to native-speaking Primary and High School students. Previous experience teaching Hebrew First Language across multiple Key Stages, particularly from Year 1 to Year 9, is essential. Experience in developing or introducing a new language programme or curriculum would be a significant advantage.
The successful candidate may also be required to support the wider Languages team and contribute to the development of language learning across the school.
All Languages classrooms have interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with iPads.
As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
