ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a well-qualified, enthusiastic and experienced specialist teacher for the High Needs Embracing Differences programme (High School Campus).

Purpose of the Post

To provide an appropriate and effective range of curriculum and therapy programmes, and learning support for ED students with complex needs including ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Down Syndrome, intellectual delay or physical disability.

The postholder will act as Class Teacher for one ED class and report to the ED Co-ordinator and Whole School Director of Learning Support and Inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the ED Co-ordinator to ensure clear communication between all members of the transdisciplinary team supporting each student, ensuring clarity around processes, plans and interventions.
  • Prepare, implement, monitor and review Individual Plans and student progress across the High Needs programme and within your class.
  • Lead planning, assessment and programme evaluation for one High Needs class.
  • Meet formally and informally with parents, teachers and specialists to review progress and provide written reports in line with school policy.
  • Collaborate to develop curriculum and therapeutic programmes to meet individual and group needs.
  • Support families and staff in complex cases, with guidance from the ED Co-ordinator and Director of Whole School Learning Support.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping in line with school policy and good practice.
  • Use appropriate differentiated teaching strategies aligned to students’ age, stage and needs, and model good practice for colleagues.
  • Act as the organisational lead for your class, arranging team meetings, coordinating staffing and timetables, and resolving day-to-day issues.
  • Mentor LSAs through the Success Factors appraisal system, including observation and feedback.
  • Facilitate weekly class team meetings and LSA briefings.
  • Liaise with specialist departments and Year Leaders to ensure inclusive opportunities for ED students.
  • Act as an ambassador for the school within the local and global community.
