Job Summary

The Music Technician provides hands-on sound and audiovisual support for music lessons, rehearsals, concerts, and performances. The role focuses exclusively on Music Department activities and plays a key part in delivering high-quality learning and performance experiences.

What You’ll Do:

  • Set up, operate, and dismantle sound and visual systems for music lessons, rehearsals, concerts, and performances (indoor and outdoor).
  • Provide live, on-site technical support during music events to ensure smooth operation.
  • Record, edit, and mix audio for music performances and departmental projects.
  • Record and edit video content related to music performances and activities.
  • Maintain, test, and troubleshoot all music-related sound and visual equipment.
  • Keep accurate inventory records and coordinate repairs or servicing with external suppliers when required.
  • Work closely with Music staff (and where relevant, Drama staff) to meet technical requirements for events and productions.
  • Support event setup and breakdown for concerts, productions, open days, and special music events.
  • Provide limited technical support to the ICT team for music-related events only.
  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Support and guide students in the safe use of sound and visual equipment.

Who We’re Looking For:

Essential

  • Qualification or practical experience in sound engineering, music technology, audiovisual production, or a related field.
  • Experience operating sound and visual systems for live events or performances.
  • Experience with audio recording, editing, and mixing.
  • Basic experience with video recording and editing.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and confidence working with technical equipment.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a school, theatre, or performance venue.
  • Knowledge of basic lighting systems for performances.
  • Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) or live sound software.
