Primary Assistant Head: Assessment, Data and Reporting
We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking leader to join our vibrant primary team as Assistant Head: Assessment, Data, and Reporting. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on how we use data to drive progress, improve outcomes, and inspire a love of learning across the school.
As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will collaborate closely with the Heads of Primary to shape the strategic direction of the school. Your work will be integral to maintaining high academic standards while ensuring that every child’s individual progress is recognised and celebrated. In addition, you will also support three Primary year groups. We are looking for someone who thrives on teamwork and brings creative energy to everything they do.
ABOUT THE ROLE
In this position, you will lead the development and implementation of a rigorous yet innovative approach to assessment and data management. You will ensure that systems are not only robust but also empowering for staff, helping them to tailor their teaching and interventions to meet the needs of every pupil. Whether designing new ways to track progress, analysing trends to identify priorities, or helping colleagues use data to enhance their practice, your work will have a direct and visible impact. This role carries a 50% teaching load. This time will be used to support middle leader colleagues.
You will oversee all aspects of the school’s assessment and reporting processes, ensuring that they are clear, timely, and accessible to both staff and parents. You’ll play a key role in engaging families in their child’s learning journey, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.
You will act as a mentor and guide to staff, offering training and support to develop their confidence in using data and assessments effectively. By embedding best practices and inspiring others, you will create a culture where data is not just a tool but a way to unlock potential and celebrate success.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re excited to welcome a leader with a proven track record of driving positive change through assessment and data. You should be confident in analysing trends, identifying priorities, and creating strategic solutions that lead to measurable improvement. You will be confident to work with a range of stakeholders to agree on and articulate high expectations and set stretching targets across the year groups. Experience working with the English National Curriculum is essential, as is the ability to balance a deep understanding of educational theory with a practical, hands-on approach. Willingness to work with EYFS colleagues to understand the progression from Early Learning Goals is a must.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape how we use assessment and data to make a real difference in children’s lives. If you’re ready to take the next step in your leadership journey and share our commitment to excellence, we’d love to hear from you.
A recognised teaching qualification and at least two years of teaching experience are prerequisites, but we’re equally interested in your attitude and approach. You will need to be an exceptional communicator with the ability to build strong relationships at every level—whether inspiring pupils, collaborating with colleagues, or engaging with parents. Creativity, adaptability, and a good sense of humour will help you thrive in our warm and supportive school community.
What You’ll Bring
• A passion for using data to drive improvement and unlock every child’s potential.
• A collaborative mindset, coupled with the ability to lead and inspire others.
• Confidence in designing and implementing innovative assessment systems.
• The ability to make data accessible, meaningful, and actionable for all stakeholders.
• A commitment to fostering high expectations and supporting staff to achieve their best.
• A proactive approach to professional development, always seeking to grow and evolve.
