Senior Accounting and Finance Officer

The role holder will have a broad overview of the organisation and school activities and together with the Business Manager be responsible to ensure the organisation meets its finance objectives.
This role holder will follow school & group finance policy and procedure ensuring all finance functions are operational. This pertains to ensuring risks are accounted for, including but not limited to internal controls , managing and reducing receivables, . To provide professional finance services to all families and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
1) Financial Analysis & Strategic Support

Lead comprehensive financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, including conducting appraisals for new school programs and detailed cost-benefit analyses.

Provide actionable financial insights and strategic recommendations to improve financial performance, optimize resource allocation, and support key school initiatives.

Develop and maintain financial models for forecasting, budgeting, and scenario planning.

Analyze financial trends, variances, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for efficiency and growth.
2) Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting

Collaborate with the Finance Manager, school administration, and departmental heads to prepare and refine annual budgets and financial forecasts.

Monitor actual financial performance against budget, providing in-depth variance analysis and proposing recommendations for effective cost control and revenue enhancement.

Prepare and interpret accurate and timely financial reports, including detailed income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budget reports, for internal stakeholders and external parties as required.

Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements and audit processes.
3) Financial Systems, Data Integrity & Control Assurance

Maintain, enhance, and optimize financial systems, software, and processes to ensure high levels of efficiency, accuracy, and robust financial operations.

Ensure the security, integrity, and reliability of all financial data within the school's systems.

Design, implement, and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard assets, ensure data accuracy, and promote operational efficiency.

Conduct regular reviews and testing of financial controls to assess their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Identify potential financial risks and recommend appropriate control measures to mitigate them.

Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
4) Operational Accounting & Collections Oversight

Oversee and participate in accurate and timely billing and invoicing activities, ensuring adherence to financial policies.

Manage and complete monthly close processes, including preparation of supporting documents and reconciliation of month-end balances.

Support Accounts Receivable by monitoring collection activities, analyzing debtor aging reports, and identifying trends to inform collection strategies.

Assist the Finance and Business Manager with ad-hoc projects and assignments as required.
5) Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

Serve as a primary point of contact for finance-related inquiries from school families and internal departments, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses.

Proactively communicate essential financial information to relevant stakeholders.

Cultivate and maintain strong, positive professional relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, fostering a trusting and collaborative work environment.

Identify, review, and implement continuous service improvements for finance-related support.
Qualification:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

3-5 year experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Skills
-
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data visualization techniques. Experience with financial modeling is highly desirable.

Demonstrated ability to perform detailed financial analysis and provide insightful recommendations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

High level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Experience working in an educational or international environment is an advantage.
