JOB PURPOSE
To lead and develop the school’s Physical Education (PE) Department, ensuring a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and engagement for students of all ages.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Develop, articulate and implement a strategic vision for the school’s PE department in alignment with Hamelin-Laie’s mission and values.
Establish and monitor clear objectives for physical education from Early Years to Baccalaureate.
Foster an environment of inclusivity, respect, teamwork, and personal development through physical activity.
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION
Design, evaluate, and refine the Physical Education (PE) curriculum across all school levels in accordance with the expectations of the Spanish National Curriculum, the International Curriculum Association, and the IB Diploma.
Integrate best practices and modern educational methodologies into the sports programme.
Promote interdisciplinary learning by linking sports education with academic subjects and activities.
LEADERSHIP AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Lead and inspire a team of PE teachers and coaches to deliver high-quality physical education.
Provide mentorship, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities for staff.
Cultivate a collaborative and innovative culture within the PE department.
Ensure that all staff adhere to the school's policies on health, safety, safeguarding, and equal opportunities.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
Encourage student participation in both competitive and recreational sports programmes.
Monitor and support the physical and personal growth of students through tailored sports initiatives.
Organise inclusive sporting events to accommodate students of all abilities and interests.
EVENT MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION
Plan, oversee, and execute internal and external sports events, competitions, and tournaments.
Represent the school within local, regional, and international sporting networks.
Build partnerships that expand student opportunities in sports and physical development.
FACILITY AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Oversee the sports department budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources.
Maintain and enhance sports facilities, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.
Procure and manage high-quality sports equipment and materials to support student development.
HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELL-BEING
Implement and monitor safety protocols during sports activities and events.
Advocate for the physical and mental well-being of students through a balanced and inclusive sports programme.
Ensure equitable access to fitness and sports resources for all students. In particular, ensure gender balance and a strategy for the development of female athletes is implemented.
Carry out and plan risk assessments for all on-site and off-site activities and events.

Required Skills/Abilities
Qualifications and Training
Qualified to degree level or above. Essential.
Qualified Teacher Status. Essential.
IB or IMYC teacher training completed. Desirable.
Middle Leadership qualification such as NAE MLP or NPQML (or commitment to undertake such a qualification). Desirable
Experience and Knowledge
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience. Essential.
Native level English, mother tongue or equivalent fluency. Essential.
Effective teaching and learning styles across the whole Secondary age range. Essential.
Experience of working in partnership with parents. Essential.
