St Andrews International School Bangkok is one of 88 schools in the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) family. ABOUT THE ROLE

Careers and Higher Education Counsellor

 

The main role in school is to provide Careers and Higher Education guidance to enable students to make career-related decisions and to help them acquire the necessary skills to manage both their career goals and university or college applications. The role also involves working with teachers and other key staff to improve the delivery of careers education, information and guidance throughout the school.

 

Working within the Careers and Higher Education team, the successful applicant will:

  • Be responsible for the university applications process including assuring the quality of all applications

  • Plan and deliver a progressive programme of careers education and individual guidance for all students in Years 7-13, through the Wellbeing and Academic Development programmes, and a planned programme of careers and university guidance activities including assemblies and one off events

  • Work closely with Heads of Year and Tutors to ensure that all students have a progressive programme of careers and higher education guidance

  • Plan a strategy for information on higher education guidance with good information and communication strategies of advice to teachers, students and parents

  • Maintain and develop expertise through professional development, communication with colleges, universities and employers to enhance the service in school

  • Facilitate and lead group sessions, workshops and presentations to parents and key staff

  • Plan and deliver careers and higher education evenings, parents’ evenings and other meetings

  • Maintain consistent communication and e-mail correspondence with representatives of colleges and universities worldwide

  • Oversee maintenance and development of appropriate resources for students, including publications, the school’s website and appropriate guidance materials

  • Provide accurate data collection on higher education applications and final destinations of all school leavers

  • Provide specialist counselling support for Oxbridge, Medicine and Ivy League applicants

  • Provide inclusive counselling support for all students on a graduation pathway

Curriculum and Learning Approach

Our curriculum broadly follows the English National Curriculum with an inclusive, international perspective. Senior students take IGCSEs and the IB Diploma, with options for the IB Career-Related Pathway and International BTECs, catering to our diverse community. We embrace technology ensuring staff and students have the tools for digital learning. Our facilities include interactive screens in all classrooms, and every teacher receives a personal device.

Candidates should demonstrate that they have experience of working in international schools advising students on higher education choices as a careers adviser or college counsellor.
