MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a counselor in Primary and Pre-K, you provide a comprehensive PSHE and educational counselling service with the aim of mentoring and coaching teachers, empowering them to better support the emotional, social and behavioural development of all students.  You consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students with a particular emphasis on the development of the whole school PSHE programme.  Whole class preventative interventions will be prioritized.  However, time-limited, Individual and group sessions may be provided as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Offer timely individual and small group counselling sessions to appropriately identified students.
  • Collaborate with the learning support department on effective interventions between both disciplines.
  • Work closely with the PSHE coordinator and teachers in Primary to develop a strong prevention programme.
  • Close collaboration with teachers and Principals in both preschool and primary sections while working with individual students.
  • Support teachers in their communication and collaboration with parents.

  • Deliver groups in Pre school & Primary
  • Providing a strong presence in the playground to support vulnerable students.
  • Adhere to counselling policies and procedural guidelines.
  • Developing the counselling data base.
  • Maintaining reliable records and reports.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Head of Student Support Services.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality while also understanding its limits.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Qualification

  • Post Graduate Degree (Masters) in Counseling (or other related Social Sciences, Therapy or Psychology related background)
  • License to practice allowing  meeting with children  in 1:1
  • Additional certificates or diploma ; Special Education Teaching are preferred

Experience

  • Working with young children (age 2 – 10) in a counseling role in an educational and/or private setting
  • Working with young children with Learning Differences is preferred

 

Prior experience

  • Knowledge on current practices for individual and group interventions for children
  • Ethical and legal guidelines for working in a school environment

Additional Skills 
You have a strong background in working with young children aged 2 to 10, ensuring their growth and well-being. You handle pressure well and have good communication and interpersonal skills. Meeting deadlines and taking feedback in stride are strengths of yours, and you enjoy working in teams. You're organized, adaptable, and fluent in French, with English as your mother tongue. Any other languages are an asset.

CRUCIAL INFORMATION

It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships. You understand and embrace the importance of diversity and inclusion and stand against discrimination in any form. Background investigations and reference checks for the past ten years will be conducted during the selection process.
