MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Encouraging and supporting students to enjoy and make the most of the learning opportunities offered by the school and, specifically, to teach EAL to Middle School Secondaire students. The role includes the possibility of becoming a homeroom advisor.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The EAL teacher will: 

  • Promote the school’s mission and vision by assisting students, both day and boarding, to discover and develop individual strengths, make powerful, lifelong global connections, and be their best selves;
  • Contribute to the creation of a caring and inclusive learning environment in which students can flourish, ensuring that each student’s health and well-being are given the necessary priority;
  • Embody and promote Collège du Léman’s RISE values of Respect, Internationalism, Spirit, and Excellence;
  • Use and develop the existing resources to teach EAL classes in Middle School Secondaire;
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualification

You must hold a relevant EAL teaching qualification along with a teaching qualification. A Master’s degree in a suitable area of pedagogy is preferred.

Experience

Successful experience in teaching in a Middle School setting to students whose first language might not be English, ideally in an international school setting, is required. Successful experience in teaching EAL students and ability to meet the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences in the classroom are required. An experience as a homeroom advisor is an asset.

Prior experience
English is your mother tongue. You have the ability to use and integrate Educational Technology as a tool to enhance learning in the curriculum.  Furthermore, fostering a positive relationship with students is paramount – firm but empathetic and fair. You have good organizational skills; evidenced by meeting the requirements of external examination boards. 
Lastly, you demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Skills 
The ideal candidate will excel in teamwork, meeting tight deadlines, and implementing effective classroom and differentiation strategies.

CRUCIAL INFORMATION

It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships. You understand and embrace the importance of diversity and inclusion and stand against discrimination in any form. Background investigations and reference checks for the past ten years will be conducted during the selection process.
