Job Description

General Purpose

The Learning Support Assistant provides specialized support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring inclusive access to the curriculum and facilitates academic, social and emotional growth.

Reporting to:  

  • Exceptional Education Program Coordinator.
  • Exceptional Education Program Specialists.

Other Key Relationships:

  • Elementary and/or Secondary Principals,
  • Homeroom Teachers, Specialist teachers, Parents

Key Responsabilities

Engagement and Interaction

  • To ensure that day to day operations, programs and practices reflect the school’s mission and philosophy of "Be Ambitious".
  • To proactively communicate with students, colleagues and parents/caregivers in a respectful, clear, caring and professional way.
  • To carry out EEP students' supervisory duties as required.

Teaching and Learning

  • To deliver coherent, well-planned and well-sequenced personalized academic, behavioral,social and/or emotional support to assigned students in collaboration with EEP Specialists.
  • To provide one-on-one or small group in-class or pull-out support for students.
  • To use a range of strategies to complement teaching programs, support and intervention that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students.
  • To support class teachers to provide a stimulating,positive and caring learning environment for all students.
  • To make good use of IT as appropriate to support the learning and personal needs of individual students.
  • To prepare timely and meaningful feedback, reports and notifications to students and parents using a variety of communication means.
  • To maintain clear records pertaining to students.

Professional and Personal Development

  • Stay current on best practices and research in the field of special education.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate and share expertise and resources.
  • To participate in our performance evaluationprocesses to develop both professionally and personally.

 

Required Skills/Abilities

Qualifications & Training

  • Associate degree or last year bachelor's degree in special education, education, psychopedagogy, or similar areas.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in special education.
  • Degree, training or similar qualification in tier 1, 2, 3 intervention programs.
  • Further qualification and/or in diverse needs areas.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Minimum of one year supporting special needs/high-risk population.
  • Data monitoring knowledge.
  • Performance screeners application.
  • Knowledge of national and/or IB curriculum.
