JOB TITLE: MYP Curriculum Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Secondary
REPORTS TO: Secondary Principal
JOB PURPOSE
The IB MYP Coordinator plays a central role in the success of the Middle Years Programme at the Metropolitan School. The coordinator provides pedagogical leadership across MYP subject groups (Grades 6 - 10) and is responsible for the development, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of the programme.
Working under the Secondary Principal and in collaboration with the Secondary Assistant Principal, Heads of Department, and Heads of Year the MYP Coordinator supports the operational leadership of the school through the effective management, coordination, and execution of all aspects of the MYP. This includes staff induction and training, curriculum alignment, assessment practices, student support systems, and programme evaluation.
With the Secondary Principal, the post-holder will:
- Contribute to policy development and whole-school strategic initiatives

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- Understanding the IB MYP Curriculum Framework and the IB Standards & Practices.
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience with inquiry driven student centered approaches to teaching and learning
- Lead and participate effectively in collaboration.
- Lead and manage change effectively.
- Communicate fluently in both written and spoken English. Spanish is helpful, but not necessary.
- A high degree of organizational skills with superb attention to detail.
- Honesty, integrity, growth-mindset, and compassion, all with a good sense of humor.
- A university degree and professional teaching qualifications; an advanced university degree is preferred.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Program Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all matters related to the IB Middle Years Programme
- Ensure that the MYP framework, standards, and practices are implemented with fidelity across all year levels
- Lead IB authorization, evaluation, and Programme Development Action Planning
- Monitor formative and summative assessment data to coordinate stretch and reach opportunities and intervention schemes with Heads of Department and their teachers.
- Oversee and coordinate all MYP Programme Requirements
- Ensure that curriculum developments are consistent with the IB requirements and the MET mission, vision, values, and beliefs.
- Ensure that there is an effective curriculum review cycle and that this cycle is implemented.
Student Support
- Support students in understanding MYP expectations, learner profile attributes, and assessment criteria
- Oversee structures that support student wellbeing, inclusion, SEND/EAL provision, and access arrangements within the MYP
- Work collaboratively with pastoral leaders, counselors, and learning support teams to address student needs
- Support effective transitions into and out of the MYP (e.g., PYP–MYP and MYP–DP pathways)
Curriculum and Assessment
- Lead curriculum alignment and vertical articulation within the MYP and across the whole school
- Oversee unit planning to ensure compliance with MYP requirements (global contexts, key and related concepts, ATL, inquiry questions, and assessment criteria)
- Support teachers in writing and implementation of curriculum initiatives through both formal and informal professional development (e.g. attendance at departmental meetings, classroom ‘drop-ins’ and observations, organizing/running staff meetings and curriculum sessions on professional development days)
- Coordinate internal and external moderation processes
- Ensure consistent and accurate use of MYP assessment criteria and reporting practices
- Lead on the implementation of IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) across the MYP
Teacher Professional Development
- Plan, facilitate, and monitor ongoing professional development for MYP teachers
- Take the lead in guiding teams of teachers through the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) cycle.
- Support staff in developing high-quality MYP units and inquiry-based learning experiences
- Mentor new MYP teachers and coordinate induction into IB philosophy and practice
Policy Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with IB MYP standards, practices, and regulations
- Monitor programme effectiveness through data analysis, self-study, and reflective practice
- Lead continuous improvement cycles aligned with IB and school development priorities
Parent and Community Engagement
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding MYP philosophy, assessment, and student learning
- Support parent education initiatives related to the MYP
- Promote understanding and value of the MYP within the wider school community
Resource Management
- Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation for the MYP
- Oversee the selection and use of learning resources, technology, and IB platforms (e.g. ManageBac)
Advocacy and Promotion
- Promote the MYP within the school and to prospective families
- Work with admissions and leadership teams to articulate clear MYP pathways and progression
- Provide regular workshops and information sessions for parents.
Other Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop a subject or curriculum area
- Be available on site for a minimum of 10 days outside term time as determined by the Secondary Principal and Head of School.
- Be accountable for policies and decision-making within the agreed area of responsibility
- Lead and manage staff to ensure high standards of professional practice and development
- Monitor and evaluate progress against School and Department Development Plans
- Coordinate CPD opportunities, including cross-curricular initiatives
- Participate in whole-school duties as required
- Keep abreast of developments in IB MYP documentation and practice and ensure timely implementation

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in education or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, including experience within the IB MYP
- Leadership or coordination experience in an IB or international school setting
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Commitment to inclusive education and student-centered learning
- Confidence with educational technology and data-informed decision-making
Professional Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of the IB MYP framework and philosophy
- Excellent communication, ICT, and presentation skills
- Experience with IB platforms (e.g. Manage Bac)
- Successful teaching and leadership experience in the secondary sector (up to at least MYP 5)
- Strong knowledge of assessment, moderation, and reporting
- Ability to remove barriers to learning and support diverse learners
- Skilled and empathetic leader and manager of people
Experience
