Job Description
Purpose
The school nurse is responsible for providing first aid care for the day-to-day health care needs of the students and staff. To support the instructional program by creating a climate of health and well-being in the school. Addressing the health needs of the school consistent with the school administration.
Reporting to: Operation Manager
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Care

Assess the condition of ill/injured students or staff and take appropriate action.

Manage childhood emergencies until further help arrives.

Administer medication and document per school policy.

Maintain accurate health records (immunizations, exams, conditions).

Refer students to external facilities when needed.

Assess and report suspected abuse/neglect as required.
Communication
-
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student health and safety.

Provide health services and information to promote wellness.

Complete and log illness/accident reports.

Maintain confidentiality on all school and health matters.
Additional Responsibilities
Organization
- Maintain daily log of student/staff visits via computer medical database system and in student health record.
- Maintain the daily environment of the nurse office and supplies.
- Ensure student emergency medicines are current.
- Maintain supplies for classroom first aid kits.
- Perform other health or school related work as required
Required Skills/Abilities
Qualifications & Training
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required)
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Republic of Panama (required)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Computer proficiency
Languages
- English (required)
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge and skills in physical assessment and treatment of childhood illnesses and medical emergencies.
- Previous experience in pediatric and emergency nursing (preferred)
- Previous experience supporting students with diabetes (preferred).
- Ability to assess and manage multiple cases simultaneously, including students and staff, with confidence and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with school staff.
- Strong communication skills.
