ABOUT THE ROLE

Mathematics is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13.

All students study Mathematics throughout the High School, with Key Stage 3 schemes of work based on the National Curriculum but adapted to encourage creative approaches to real life applications and taught in mixed-ability groups. At Key Stage 4, Years 10 and 11 students study IGCSE Mathematics, with a significant number of students each year taking their IGCSE exam early and then following a Further Maths course. All students then continue to study Mathematics as part of their International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Previous experience of teaching the IB Mathematics courses, and their philosophy, especially at Higher Level, and/or of teaching Further Maths A-Level, would be advantageous. We would, however, also welcome applications from those newer to the teaching profession - St Andrews would be a great school to develop as a professional early in your career.

At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.

All Maths classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum.

As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

We embrace diversity and innovation, offering a nurturing community for students, staff, and families where everyone is encouraged to excel.

Our teachers are passionate about creating a curriculum that recognises the uniqueness of every child, aiming for high standards while providing targeted support to ensure each student is inspired to be the best they can be. We are proud of our inclusive ethos and our commitment to supporting students with diverse learning profiles, including those new to English and those with additional educational needs. At St Andrews, we value multiple intelligences and embrace a multi-sensory approach, creating an engaging environment where academic, creative, and physical pursuits are equally celebrated.

Our Community

Joining St Andrews means becoming part of a warm and inclusive community, where teachers contribute beyond the classroom. In addition to teaching, you’ll engage in our vibrant pastoral system, residential trips, and offer extracurricular activities that enhance student growth, whether in academics, creative arts, sports, or social initiatives.

Curriculum and Learning Approach

Our curriculum broadly follows the English National Curriculum with an inclusive, international perspective. Senior students take IGCSEs and the IB Diploma, with options for the IB Career-Related Pathway and International BTECs, catering to our diverse community. We embrace technology ensuring staff and students have the tools for digital learning. Our facilities include interactive screens in all classrooms, and every teacher receives a personal device.

St Andrews is committed to ensuring the safety of all our students, and expects all staff to share the same commitment (see our Child Protection Code of Conduct). No teacher will be appointed without at least two references, including one from the most recent employer, a ten year criminal record check and relevant regional Prohibition Order/DBS checks.
