English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher

The Student Support Services Department at the British International School of Houston includes Learning Support, Counselling Services and English as an Additional Language instruction. This is a large, whole school department, led by the Head of Student Support Services. 

 

The English as an Additional Language Team work across the school, supporting students who are at various stages in their English language acquisition. Support ranges from an intensive level for students who are new to English, to a lower level for those students who are ready to graduate from the EAL programme. 

The role of Teacher for English as an Additional Language involves:

  • Working closely with the Admissions and Education teams
  • Assessing students’ levels of English
  • Correct placement of students within the programme
  • Teaching students within the programme
  • Communication with parents
  • Support for colleagues and collaboration with the other members of the EAL Team.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • TOEFL/CELTA/ESL Certification
  • Experience of teaching English as a Second/Additional language within the education setting.
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures. 
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks. 
  • An understanding of private international education, and Nord Anglia Education’s role as the world’s leading international schools' group.
  • A willingness to explore digital tools and adapt to educational platforms
