School RN Nurse
The British International School of Houston is seeking to hire an experienced School Nurse to assist and support students and staff on campus for the Academic School year (term time).
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide first aid, nursing care and urgent medical services to students and staff and document the visits.
- Collect and process students’ daily scheduled and emergency medications and ensure all relevant paperwork is properly documented in accordance with the Texas State law. Administer these medications to students as prescribed.
- Assist all teachers by making first aid supplies accessible around the school campus.
- Obtain/review/implement asthma and allergy action plans for students and staff at risk of anaphylaxis and ensure all relevant parties are privy to the information, such as coaches, teachers, and Heads of Year.
- Maintain accurate student health and medication administration records, updating in iSams, as necessary.
- Ensure information relevant to students with significant health issues is maintained and shared with the appropriate staff.
- Communicate with parents, teachers and school administrators regarding individual students and serve as a liaison between school personnel, families, health care professionals, and the community as needed.
- Maintain automated external defibrillators (AED’s) on campus and organize annual AED drills as required by the Project ADAM Heart Safe School program.
- Maintain inventory of clinics, following school ordering procedures to ensure budget is controlled.
- Perform immunization audits monthly, contact parents to ensure compliance (written/verbal).
- Review physical health forms for health screening information and accuracy.
- Implement communicable disease control by exclusion and readmission of students with certain contagious/infectious illnesses.
- Develop and update policies/procedures/protocols for the clinical practice at school. Ensure nursing team are well informed and updated of any changes in order to maintain a high level of nursing care and safe practice.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Registered Professional Nurse (RGN) License
- Experience in critical emergency or pediatric nursing
- Strong triage skills
- Knowledge of school laws and policies
- BLS/CPR Certification
- AED Certification
- Knowledge of state health regulations
