Job Description

The Pre-K Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in delivering a nurturing, developmentally appropriate early childhood program for Pre-K students during the 2025–2026 school year. This role plays a key part in supporting young children’s learning, safety, toileting needs, and social-emotional development in alignment with The Village School’s mission and Nord Anglia Education standards. 

Job Responsibilities

Early Childhood and Instructional Support

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lessons and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Support children during individual, small-group, and whole-group learning
  • Facilitate play-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, independence, and social development
  • Assist with observing and documenting children’s progress and developmental milestones 

Toileting, Hygience and Personal Care

  • Assist children with toileting, including diapering or bathroom support as needed, in accordance with school policies and safeguarding procedures
  • Support handwashing, hygiene routines, and self-care skill development
  • Assist with clothing changes, accidents, and comfort needs in a respectful and age-appropriate manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of toileting and classroom areas 

Classroom and Learning Environment

  • Prepare and maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment 
  • Set up learning centers, prepare materials, and display student work 
  • Assist with snack routines, classroom organization, and daily transitions 
  • Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is temporarily out of the room 

Student Supervision and Well-Being

  • Supervise students during indoor and outdoor play, including playground activities
  • Ensure student safety during all classroom routines and transitions
  • Support children’s social-emotional development by modeling positive behavior
  • Treat all children with dignity, patience, and respect 

Qualifications and Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Training or coursework in early childhood education preferred
  • Willingness to complete required early childhood, safeguarding, and health & safety training
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of caring for young children, including lifting, bending, and assisting with personal care
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young children 

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with young children (early childhood setting preferred)
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, including social, emotional, physical, and cognitive milestones
  • Experience supporting toileting, hygiene routines, and transitions for young children
  • Familiarity with play-based learning environments and classroom routines
  • Experience working with diverse families and cultures preferred
