Position Summary / Job Goals:

A Residential Life Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the program, after school and on weekends, under the direct supervision of the Shift Manager. The Supervisor will work every other weekend. To the students and staff in their care, they will provide structure, guidance, discipline and understanding.

Qualifications / Training:

Bachelor’s (or working toward) degree preferred

Experience / Knowledge:

Experience working with youth groups, teaching, summer camps, as a Residential Assistant in college or in a dorm setting are required.

  • Shift Manager

  • Director of Residence Life

Direct Reports:

Residential Life Parents (RLP’s), Residential Assistants (RA’s) and Stipend Staff working during their shift

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Shift Planning and Coordination

  • Work with the skeleton schedule to ensure all tasks are assigned and communicated in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Partner directly with the Shift Manager on daily staff tasks, duties, and assignments
  • Hold meetings at the start and end of each shift to assign tasks and ensure morning and night reports are completed
  • Assist in arranging shift coverage in cases of emergency absences
  • Maintain a log of all shift changes, swaps, and absences due to sickness

Staff Oversight and Performance

  • Monitor the work of RLPs and RAs during shifts to ensure tasks are completed and expectations are met
  • Ensure staff arrive on time and accurately clock in and out
  • Remain available or on-call during assigned shifts to support and guide staff
  • Work closely with Year Group Leaders and Administrative Staff

Student Supervision and Conduct

  • Ensure students are in assigned locations during study/prep time
  • Ensure attendance rosters are completed for structured study sessions
  • Monitor REACH to ensure students are checked in and out appropriately
  • Support RLPs and RAs in making disciplinary decisions and issuing consequences when required
  • Hold floor meetings with students to maintain clear communication

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Assign staff each shift to administer medications (weekday evenings and weekend mornings/evenings)
  • Ensure all medication logs are accurately completed for daily and OTC medications
  • Oversee floor allocations, ensuring appropriate staffing (e.g., female staff assigned to girls’ floors)

Operational Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties expected of RLPs and RAs as needed
  • Ensure overall shift operations run smoothly and students are in appropriate locations

Schedule and Additional Expectations

  • Work assigned hours consistent with RLP schedules
  • Attend required on-campus Wednesday afternoon staff meetings
  • Accompany one required school break trip (Spring Break or Thanksgiving Break)
  • Complete any additional duties assigned by Managers, Year Group Leaders, or Directors
