HEAD OF EAL

 

Location: NORD ANGLIA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, HONG KONG

 

NORD ANGLIA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, HONG KONG is looking to recruit a HEAD OF EAL to join our Primary team, to drive excellent teaching and learning in the subject of EAL. 

This is an exciting opportunity to create a generation of resilient and creative global citizens, who will change our world for the better. You will benefit our students and people, through our programmes such as the Global Campus, Nord Anglia University, and our collaborations with The Juilliard School, MIT, UNICEF, IMG and King’s College London.

 

The role:

We seek a qualified Head of EAL to join our thriving and dynamic team across our outstanding International Primary School where your focus will be:

  • To provide professional leadership, management and direct the members of the department in all subject activities to secure high-quality teaching, effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all learners
  • To fulfil the school’s mission statement by delivering high quality education to our students, ensuring that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs. 
  • To raise standards, monitor and support pupil progress across all campuses.
  • Connect to our vision to create a generation of resilient and creative global citizens, who will change our world for the better
  • Inspiring and motivating our students to succeed

 

The Successful Candidate will possess:

  • Qualified to Bachelor of Education or appropriate Degree with PGCE in relevant EAL subject
  • Qualified teacher with experience teaching in an international environment
  • EAL background or similar qualification
  • Recognised 120 hours English Language Teaching Qualification, i.e. Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL
  • Proven track record with at least 5 years’ EAL teaching experiences
  • Knowledge of the CEFR and common language exams (KET, PET, FCE, IELTS)
  • Trained language examiner, e.g. IELTS or Cambridge Language Exams
  • Knowledge of the English National Curriculum and related subject knowledge
  • Knowledge of assessment and reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of IGCSE and IB syllabus and arrangements
  • PGDip TESOL, e.g. Cambridge DELTA or Trinity College London DipTESOL
  • Knowledge and understanding of children’s learning and development and how this relates to EAL practice
  • Knowledge and awareness of current educational developments in EAL
  • The ability to integrate technology into the classroom experience to enhance and extend the learning of students 
  • Successfully teach students using technology in a virtual/hybrid environment

 

About you

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment as well as meet visa-related restrictions for Hong Kong of the China Region, including a Qualified to Bachelor of Education or appropriate Degree with PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status, hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure or equivalent from other countries.  A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, the willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training.
