ABOUT THE ROLE

Spanish and French are popular and well-established subjects at St. Andrews, and we are seeking an experienced and dynamic teacher to join our Primary School Languages team. Class sizes are small and students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively and communicative approach to language learning through a wide range of engaging teaching techniques.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for both Spanish and French and contribute collaboratively to the continued development of the curriculum from Year 3 to Year 6. The successful candidate may also be required to teach some classes in High School to support the wider Languages team, and therefore experience teaching across both Primary and Secondary levels will be an advantage.

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) are taught from Year 3 onwards, with students choosing between French, Spanish, or Mandarin as their language of study. Students continue with their chosen language until the end of Year 9, when they may opt to pursue IGCSE. At Key Stage 5, all students study two Language or Literature subjects in the IB Diploma Programme, with Spanish and French offered at various levels to cater for both continuing and beginner students.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience teaching Spanish and French to Primary-aged students.

  • Flexibility and the pedagogical range to also teach in High School settings when needed.

  • A commitment to fostering enthusiasm for languages and intercultural understanding among young learners.

  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia, mild autism, and ADHD, in line with our inclusive ethos.

At St. Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school with an excellent reputation for supporting students with a range of educational needs. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting “all the needs of the individual learner”, from those requiring additional support to those striving for the highest academic standards at IGCSE and IB.
