We’re looking to recruit an outstanding School Nurse to join our Manila school, a Nord Anglia Education school.

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

The role of the School Nurse is that of a professional presence to support children when they are hurt and vulnerable. It involves liaising with staff, parents, and other agencies in a professional manner to convey a nurturing approach to pastoral care within the school environment.

 

KEY RESULT AREA

 

GENERAL

●    Independent management and improvement of School Healthcare Service Programs
●    Provide health and first aid assistance and information to all students, visitors and staff as required. Assist students who need to go home if injured or ill.
●    In the case of a medical emergency, take control of the situation – follow the Health and Safety procedures for a medical emergency. Administer appropriate first aider support, liaise with ambulance and/or medical support services and parents if necessary.
●    Order and maintain all necessary medical and health equipment stocks for the school clinic and first aid kits around school. Conduct half-termly inventory.


SUPPORT ROLE

●    Respond appropriately and non-judgmentally to students and staff from the variety of cultures and backgrounds.
●    Understand the importance of confidentiality and advocacy.
●    Liaise with parents/caregivers of students who indicate on enrolment, particular conditions – e.g. serious allergies / anaphylaxis, asthma, other medical conditions where necessary, for the school’s information.
●    Coordinate with the School Nutritionist/Dietitian and Teachers regarding students with Special Diet. 
●    Prepare Health Care plans and ensure they are updated throughout the year as necessary, informing all relevant staff of any changes. 
●    Update Health Notice Board regularly, keeping an educational aspect.


HEALTH AND SAFETY

●    Keep a daily handwritten record of all first aid treatment and record all clinic visits and incidents to the school H&S system.
●    Plan and present first aid training for children, staff and outsourced personnel.
●    Manage, improve, and implement school clinic policies and procedures
●    Prepare “Medical Alert” information sheets ensuring teaching staff are aware of any special medical needs of the children they teach
●    Liaise with Department of Health regarding Notifiable diseases and other infectious diseases causes concern in school (under supervision of SLT).
●    Fulfil the role of Safety and Health Officer. Understand any local regulatory requirements and ensure these are implemented in a school level.

 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

 

  • Active PRC License as Nurse
  • BOSH Certification is an advantage
  • 2 or more years of hospital experience
  • Experience working in a school setting is an advantage
  • Fluency in English (written and oral)
  • Good ICT Skills
  • Problem solving and critical thinking ability
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible
  • Warm, welcoming, approachable manner
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm
  • High levels of personal integrity
