Academic Systems Lead

 

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

The Academic Systems Lead provides regional coordination and oversight of the Academic Systems ecosystem—including the Student Information System (MIS), LMS platforms, internal Nord Anglia tools, and other academic systems such as ManageBac, Toddle, Clever and Canvas.

 

The role acts as a key liaison with Group and Regional Education Teams and the Group Education Business Partner to ensure all systems and platforms align with academic strategy.

 

This role oversees the effective use, governance, and development of MIS and related academic applications, including safeguarding-supportive system processes, while maintaining the regional application portfolio. Working with vendors, Education Teams, the Group Education Business Partner, and schools, it supports escalations, promotes consistent system usage, and contributes to long-term planning and enhancement of academic systems. This is not a first-line support role; responsibilities focus on escalation management, application readiness, system improvements, and strategic alignment. 

 

Remote work will be considered, depending on location and alignment with regional needs.

 

REPORTING TO: Regional Applications Manager

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Escalation & Vendor Coordination

  • Act as the primary escalation point for third-party vendors supporting regional academic systems (MIS, LMS, and related applications).
  • Follow up on escalated issues from the Nord Anglia Service Desk and Vendor Help desk and ensure timely vendor resolution.
  • Track and document vendor cases, SLAs, and resolution trends.
  • Participate in vendor review meetings and provide feedback on recurring issues or improvement areas.
  • Coordinate multi-party escalations
  • Work with other Nord Anglia teams as needed to support application issue resolutions.

 

2. Academic Applications Oversight

  • Collaborate with MIS and academic application vendors, Group and Regional Education Teams, the Group Education Business Partner, and schools to plan, test, validate, and implement system releases, updates, and upgrades.
  • Review and document configuration changes to ensure regional compliance, accuracy, and consistency across academic systems.
  • Support schools with post-release validation, ensuring gradebooks, attendance, reporting, safeguarding workflows, and integrations operate as expected.
  • Contribute to the long-term Academic Systems strategy, with emphasis on the MIS and all related academic platforms such as but not limited to Canvas, Toddle, Clever, Managebac.
  • Provide guidance on integrations, data flows, and system dependencies to promote effective and coherent system use.
  • Participate in organizational change management governance to ensure system changes follow standards, are communicated clearly, and support successful adoption across all schools.

 

3. Data Quality & Integrity

  • Conduct regular data audits to identify and correct inconsistencies in the MIS.
  • Support data and compliance reporting for the region.
  • Collaborate with schools to improve data entry standards and reduce duplication and errors.
  • Promote consistent data practices across all academic systems.

 

4. Regional Application Portfolio Ownership & Oversight

  • Own and maintain the regional academic application portfolio, ensuring systems remain accurate, current, and aligned with operational and educational needs.
  • Collaborate with schools to keep application information up to date and compliant with global/regional standards.
  • Maintain and update the Regional Application Repository as the authoritative resource for schools, including access links, system contacts, ownership and usage guidelines, and relevant documentation.
  • Communicate repository updates clearly across the region.

 

 

Essential Qualifications & Experience

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate in Information Systems, Education Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a education environment, with an understanding of school operations, academic cycles, and stakeholder needs.
  • Knowledge of different types of curricula (e.g., IB, IGCSE, A-Level, US, International/Hybrid) and how academic systems support curriculum
  • Strong understanding of educational technology applications, including their purpose, user workflows, and integration points within a school ecosystem.
  • Proven experience working with Student Information Systems (MIS) in a school or multi-school environment.
  • Strong SQL reporting and query-writing skills, including developing and validating custom reports and data extracts.
  • Proficiency with Power BI, including building dashboards, data models, and visualizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in data integrity management, including auditing, validation, and implementation of data governance practices.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as IT, school leadership, education teams, and vendors.
  • Fluent in English, with proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience configuring or supporting MIS platforms such as iSAMS, PowerSchool, Veracross, or similar.
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms and other academic applications used in K–12 education.
  • Experience working in an international or multi-region school group environment.
  • Understanding of academic reporting, assessment workflows, and school management processes.
