JOB PURPOSE
To teach class or groups of students, ensuring that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs with regards to learning English as an Additional Language.
REPORTING TO: Head of Inclusion
KEY RESULT AREA
Planning, Teaching and Class Management:
▪ Lead on all aspects of teaching and learning English as an Additional Language;
▪ Inspire trust and confidence in students, colleagues, and parents;
▪ Engage and motivate students;
▪ Help build strong teams and create the conditions for them to excel;
▪ Contribute to action plans for improvements in results each year;
▪ Contribute to school’s improvement plan and promote the learning priorities, including contributing to departmental improvement plans;
▪ Oversee and manage all year group baseline and ongoing English Speaking and Listening assessments and reporting arrangements.
▪ Use student tracking and monitoring to advance student learning and enhance professional practice in line with the School’s aspirations and priorities;
▪ Teach students so that they achieve the best they can be;
▪ Maintaining high level of behaviour and discipline;
▪ Effectively using homework and other extra-curricular learning;
▪ Establishing a purposeful and safe learning environment;
▪ Using technology to enhance learning opportunities.
▪ Use a knowledge of how children acquire language to design engaging and inspiring lessons for students.
▪ Planning effective teaching programmes which provide exemplary learning; opportunities for EAL students within and beyond the classroom;
▪ Positively identifying, targeting and supporting individual learning needs;
▪ Make effective use of formative and summative assessment data to plan challenging learning opportunities for all EAL students;
▪ Monitor and record students’ learning, evaluating data and planning and delivering interventions, to ensure they remain on track to achieve challenging targets which are in line with the EAL assessment framework used;
▪ Report on progress to class teachers and parents.
Pastoral responsibilities:
▪ Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment for all students;
▪ Promote the general progress and wellbeing of individual students and the EAL cohort in general;
▪ Contribute to the preparation of action plans;
▪ Alert appropriate staff to any problems;
▪ Communicate effectively with parents, liaising with class teachers as appropriate;
▪ Contribute to the PSHE programme.

▪ Continual development through the identification and implementation of your own Personal Development Plan
▪ All staff are required to manage effective personal development as part of the Company’s commitment to invest in staff as the key resource in the organisation
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications/Training
Qualified to Bachelor of Education or appropriate degree with PGCE/or equivalent
EAL training or similar qualification
