We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Secondary (National Program) to lead the academic and administrative operations of our secondary division, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and compliance with ANEP regulations. (Local hires only)
The Director of Secondary of National Program is responsible for leading the academic, administrative, and management of the secondary division. The Director is responsible for leading, coordinating, and supervising a secondary education institution, with the aim of ensuring compliance with educational policies, institutional quality, and the achievement of student learning outcomes, within the framework of regulations, educational projects, and pedagogical guidelines established by ANEP.The role ensures educational excellence, student well-being, and compliance with Uruguayan educational regulations, while promoting the school’s mission, vision, and values.
Pedagogical and Educational Leadership
• Lead and coordinate the school’s academic activities, promoting continuous improvement of student learning.
• Ensure the implementation of educational policies defined by the General Directorate of Secondary Education and other bodies within the education system.
• Supervise the planning, execution, and evaluation of the school’s pedagogical proposals.
• Responsible for the planning, design, delivery and administration of the national program (PN).
• Oversee the planning and implementation of the approved secondary curriculum.
• Ensure compliance with national educational regulations and requirements in Uruguay (ANEP).
• Promote instructional excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor academic performance and develop action plans to improve outcomes.
• Support curriculum alignment and assessment practices.
• Ensure report card comments follow protocols/regulations.
• Organise the “Acto de Jura de la bandera” and other events required by Secundaria.
• Organize the school calendar for school trips and outins with academic purpose- Eleccion de abanderados & Pasaje de bandera (acto fin de año)
Organization Leadership
• Develop area goals and objectives consistent with International College
• Organize staff meetings for student reporting as required by Secundaria (Reuniones), including preparing all relevant information for teachers’ meetings.
• Liaise constantly with the educational authorities, including when there are legal concerns.
• Monitor the work of the Secondary Academic Secretary
• Supervise the assessment calendar (Exámenes semestrales y finales, Módulo introductorio, end of the year retakes and APE) done by Secondary Academic Secretary.
• Supervise the Adscripción along with Head of Secondary
o organise class covers, following school criteria.
o ensure staff complies with taking attendance
o supervise the daily report (Staff absenteeism and tardiness)
• Ensure, along with HSW, “adecuaciones curriculares” are being met/complied
Instructional Leadership
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate teaching staff.
• Lead faculty meetings and professional development initiatives.
• Participate in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of teachers.
• Foster a collaborative, respectful, and professional work environment.
• Work closely with, and report to, the Head of Secondary
• Attend and participate in SMG & SLT meetings.
• Assist in leading the Secondary staff and promote a positive work atmosphere
• Suggest professional development opportunities to the Principal/HS
• Prepare the relevant parts of the budget for the HS
• Assist in Admissions when required
• Teach, or take cover periods, when required
Qualifications/Training
• Have reached a Grade 4 in the teaching career scale
• Valid teaching qualifications for Secondary Education
• Bilingual Spanish/English native speaker
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership or a related filed (preferred)
• Proficiency in computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
• Be a tenured (effective) teacher
Experience / Knowledge
• Proven Experience in teaching and educational leadership roles
• Minimum of seven (7) years of successful, full-time, classroom teaching experience
• Previous International-American school experience preferred
• Capacity for planning, decision-making, and organizational management.
• Experience in institutional and administrative management.
• Strong knowledge of Uruguayan (ANEP) educational regulations
