About the role 
 

The Head of Learning Support will support students with individual learning needs to achieve their full potential and access the TBS Curriculum. The Head of Learning Support is responsible for leading the Learning Support Teaching Team and providing guidance and training to leaders, teachers and assistant teachers with regards to how to support children with SEN as well as teaching within the inclusion team.

Job Responsibilities 

 

  • Liaise with the Leadership Teams to develop creative and effective teaching and learning strategies for the Learning Support Team and other support staff across the school. 

  • To liaise with the Leadership Teams to deploy the Learning Support Team efficiently to ensure appropriate support. 

  • Monitor agreed work programs to ensure that children with SEN have access to good quality learning.  

  • To formulate, create and implement IEPs for children in collaboration with other members of the Learning Support Team. 

  • To contribute to the whole school ethos, environment and organisation both practically and as a positive role model for pupils and colleagues. 

  • Work with the Leadership Teams to recruit suitable Learning Support Staff for TBS. 

  • Prepare and monitor the induction program for new Learning Support staff. 

  • Be the first line of pastoral support for Learning Support Staff 

  • The postholder will be professionally responsible and accountable on a day-to-day basis for the work of the Learning Support Team members and will be responsible for the appraisal of identified staff. 

  • Ensure that teaching strategies of the Learning Support team impacts on learning 

  • Liaise with the Heads of School to ensure that there are effective assessments for potential children with Learning Support Needs on entry to the school for the Heads of School to make an accurate assessment of the needs of the child. 

  • To coordinate and deliver the program of professional learning and development undertaken by the Learning Support Team including in-house INSET, external professional learning and Teacher Learning Communities. 

  • To regularly monitor and assess the impact of the Learning Support Team. 

  • Support the Learning Support Team in providing high quality pastoral care. 

  • Ensure that the Learning Support Team are used appropriately across all areas of the school including enabling them to provide expertise and training to other members of staff. 

  • Ensure Learning Support staff have a knowledge and understanding of high expectations, in terms of achievement and behaviour. 

  • Ensure Learning Support staff employ a variety of teaching and learning methods which will impact upon pupil standards and achievements. 

  • Ensure that Learning Support staff are given guidance in preparing IEPs and activities to match learners needs, aspirations and capabilities. 

  • To train Learning Support staff in how to monitor and evaluate pupil learning. 

  • To constantly track, review, monitor and update the students listed on the SEN register.

Competencies 

 

  • Hold an degree level qualification or above  

  • Possess UK QTS or equivalent 

  • A few years of relevant experience 

  • A strong record of professional development
