Job Description

The Cover Teacher – Mathematics will be responsible for delivering high-quality Mathematics lessons to Secondary students during the absence of regular teachers. The role requires the ability to effectively manage classes, follow the prescribed curriculum and lesson plans, maintain continuity of learning, and create a positive and engaging learning environment.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong subject knowledge, classroom management skills, adaptability, and an understanding of an international/IB learning environment.

Job Responsibilities



Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver planned Mathematics lessons for Secondary students in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Follow lesson plans and curriculum requirements to ensure continuity of learning.
  • Use engaging, student-centred and inquiry-based teaching approaches.
  • Develop students’ problem-solving, analytical and critical-thinking skills.

Classroom Management

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Monitor attendance, student engagement and behaviour.
  • Address and escalate behavioural or safeguarding concerns as required.

Assessment & Student Progress

  • Monitor student learning and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Support classroom assessments and activities as required.
  • Identify students requiring additional support and communicate concerns to the relevant teacher/HOD.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with the Mathematics Department and Secondary leadership.
  • Maintain effective communication with the regular teacher for smooth handover and continuity.
  • Attend relevant meetings, training and professional development sessions.

Student Wellbeing & Safeguarding

  • Promote student safety, wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Follow all school safeguarding, health and safety and student welfare procedures.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Education or a relevant subject.
  • Recognised teaching qualification such as B.Ed. or equivalent.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics at Secondary level.
  • Previous experience teaching Mathematics at Secondary level.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
